Camp Surf - October 2021

Much fun was had on this annual excursion to Surf Camp in San Diego where the kids also learned about Responsibility.  Activities include beach camping, dining in the dining hall, dry land surf lessons, boogie boarding, games, archery, a 40-foot climbing wall, and a fire pit with s'mores at night!  They love it.

Why Scouting? Cub Scout Pack 4 - Pasadena

Cub Scout Pack 4 and Boy Scout Troop 4 have been helping Pasadena and Altadena kids develop academic skills, self-confidence, ethics, leadership, and citizenship skills for over 100 years!

Scouting is fun and provides youth with activities that allow them to:

  • Try new things.
  • Provide service to others.
  • Build self-confidence.
  • Reinforce ethical standards.

Scouting teaches skills and teamwork, and encourages youth to achieve a deeper appreciation for service to others in their community.  It also allows the children time to be creative and silly and play.

Scouting provides kids with a sense that they are important as individuals. It is communicated to them that those in the Scouting family care about what happens to them, regardless of whether a game is won or lost.

Finally, Scouting promotes activities and skill-learning that lead to personal responsibility and high self-esteem.

How does it work?

Kids are divided into Dens by Grade level, Kinder through 5th grade.  The Dens meet once a month, where they work on specific projects together as laid out in the Scouting guide.  With each achievement they earn a badge.  The Dens are led by a parent Den leader.

Together, the Dens are a Pack.  The Pack meets once a month at our Scout House.  A parent Cubmaster leads the ceremonies and meetings.  The Dens have various roles at the Pack meetings, with opportunities to do skits or lead aspects of the meeting.

Each year there is a graduation ceremony where the children earn their advancement to the next level.  After 5th grade the kids graduate from Cub Scout Pack 4 to the Boy Scout Troop 4.

There are other optional meetups and adventure opportunities throughout the year, such as Surf Camp, meeting up at the Scouting shooting range, camping at Catalina, Rocket Academy, and Things that Fly. And of course, the famous Pinewood Derby!

Will this fit into my schedule?

Scouting helps kids think creatively and stay grounded in this 21st Century world.  We are busy parents and guardians who value our kids slowing down and spending time in nature away from screens, the diversity of the Altadena/Pasadena area, and the values and skills that Scouting brings.  Most of the kids participate in sports and other activities, too.  We make it happen. There's no other place that offers the scouting experience.

Visit Pack 4's "Scout House" and check out historical items dating back 100 years to the start of our Troop!

If you are new to scouting, we have various pre-worn uniform items in good condition for new members, so let us know!

Reach out with any questions to 626-794-2470.  We look forward to meeting you!

Cub Scout Pack 4 2021 - 2022

Our September Pack meeting began the scouting year with a blast! Den meetings started this month, and everyone is having so much fun. We kept our meetings lively and enriching when we were online, yet it's so great to be back in person, and we look forward to welcoming new members to our Pack!

We also are looking forward to Surf Camp this upcoming weekend in San Diego!  Friday-Sunday, family camping centered around three hours of surf lessons daily.

Surf Camp is one of the optional Scouting activities available to Scouts and their families during the year, and it is a great way to involve the whole family in scouting fun.  For this camping adventure, just bring your tent and personal items to set up on the beach, and everything else is arranged for you.  (If you don't have a tent and sleeping items, we can help assemble what you need.)
