After learning how to to tie half hitches and square knots, the second year Webelos wandered down Christmas Tree Lane. Just as we stumbled upon an enterprising fellow with his "Ugly Christmas Sweater Photo Booth" outside the Altadena Public Library, it started to hail and rain on us! He snapped our picture in a jiffy and we all high-tailed it back to shelter. Ho Ho Ho and Merry Christmas from our Den to the Pack!

Webelos 2 at Joshua Tree Nov 2016
Webelos 2 had a great time camping at Joshua Tree with other pack members and Troop 4 Boy Scouts. Some of the fun things we did were rapelling...
hiking 5 miles and 1000 foot elevation gain to the top of Mount Ryan...
catching the Milky Way...
rock climbing around our campsite in the morning...
and hanging out together.
Plus, there were some amazing stars!

Scout Expo
Webelos 2 had a great time visiting the Scout Expo last weekend. We completed our Engineering Adventure and got to learn a lot about Scouting. One of the group favorites was the bomb squad's exhibition. You can see all our photos here.

More 9/11 Remembrance
Pack 4 walked down New York avenue in Pasadena on Sunday, 9/11 from Smiser Scount Center to the Eaton Canyon Firehouse. At the end, they heard President Obama's commission statement founding Patriot Day on 9/11, to remember that awful day in 2001. The Captain and other members of the fire crew on duty Sunday gave a phenomenal tour of the fire house and explained what it's like to be a fire fighter in Southern California. Thank you to the fire fighters and John Heinsen for organizing this memorable day. You can see more photos at this flickr album.
Second year Webelos go Sea Kayaking
On Sunday, 9/11, the second year Webelos finished their Aquanautics Adventure by learning the basics of boat safety and sea kayaking. Check out all the fun we had at this flickr album.

Hometown Heroes hanging with our Wolf Den
During a recent Den meeting we were interrupted by a low flying helicopter. The helicopter landed in Farnsworth Park after rescuing a cyclist who was lost in the mountains. Our local sheriffs brought him home safely, gave him several bottles of water to re-hydrate his body, and took time out of their busy schedule to talk to our scouts about safety. Thank you Hometown Heroes!
Scout Egg Drop @ Dodger Stadium
Winner of The most creative egg drop apparatus. His device consisted of two eggs! As they say, two eggs are better than one.
Both eggs landed safely on the tarmac.
Congratulations To all of our scouts who participated!

Things That Fly!
Pack 4 held it first ever July Summer Social
with the theme
THINGS THAT FLY
We went to Farnsworth Park's upper field on July 17th to launch all sorts of things that slip the surly bonds of earth.
Competitions were held and ribbons were awarded.
We started with ice cream, and ended with Domino's Pizza.
Definitely the highest flying craft was the Bears' leader Mr. Salinas' water pump soda bottle rockets!
