California Dreamin': Beach Camping in Carpinteria!

Calling all Camp-Curious Cub Scouts!

Our Cub Scout pack hits the great outdoors three times a year, exploring different landscapes: the glorious California desert (think Joshua Tree!), the inviting ocean (Carpinteria or San Diego!), and the crisp mountain air (we have a couple favorite spots!).

We understand camping isn't for everyone, and there's absolutely no pressure to join every trip. But for those who love spending quality time with their Scouts in nature, we have a well-oiled system to make it a breeze.

Thinking about giving camping a try but feeling a little unsure? No worries! All you really need is a tent. Some families in our pack even have extras they're happy to lend, and renting is always an option.

Now, let's be honest: while I enjoy camping, comfort is also a priority for me! My secret weapons for a comfortable camping trip? Extra padding for your sleeping area (goodbye uneven ground), earplugs for a peaceful night's sleep, an eye mask to block out early morning light -- and lots of wipes!

But trust me, the fun the kids have together and the memories made under the stars are truly priceless.

A NASA Scientist Teaches The Earth Rocks!

The Bear den learned about rocks and got their Geology badge! This adventure was led by one of our parents, who happens to be a NASA scientist. 

They had to:

• Explain to the den what "geology" means.
• Collect samples of rocks and explain how each was formed (igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic).
• Collect samples of three minerals. Explain what a mineral is and show and tell about the collected minerals. 

They are so engaged as they learn.

Winter Fun at Camp Pollock! (Even Without the Snow!)

While winter camp at Camp Pollock didn't bring the snow this year, Cub Scout Pack 4 wasn't fazed! We traded snowballs for sunshine and had a blast exploring the beautiful mountain setting.

This Scout Council trip is a fun-filled getaway with cozy cabins, cafeteria meals with all the offerings you would expect, and winter activities.

The kids enjoyed craft projects, challenged themselves on the indoor climbing wall, and explored the mountain landscape on some great hikes.

They had a blast, even without the traditional sledding fun. Stay tuned for more upcoming Scouting adventures!

 

2023 Christmas Tree Lane Lighting Ceremony

Calling All Holiday Enthusiasts!

Haven't experienced the magic of Christmas Tree Lane yet? Make it a must-do next year! This Altadena tradition is a ton of fun, and Cub Scouts Pack 4 Pasadena is proud to volunteer there annually.

Pack 4 Scouting Spirit Shines Bright

Our Cub Scouts get a kick out of handing out event programs and spreading holiday cheer. This year, our activity booth was a huge hit! We offered festive crafts like wishing bottles and personalized leather keychains, keeping the little ones entertained throughout the event.

Giving Back During the Season of Giving

Beyond the crafts, we also collected donations to support two worthy causes: The Altadena Food Bank and our very own Pack Accessibility Fund. We believe in giving back to our community, and supporting the Food Bank is one of the ways we stay involved throughout the year.

Webelos 1 Cast Iron Chef Adventure - October 18, 2015

During our backyard cookout, the boys completed their Whittling Chip (the 'right of passage' to carry a pocket knife in Scouting!) AND the Cast Iron Chef Adventure Pin! The Whittling Chip requires the boys learn pocket knife safety. They practiced by carving a bar of soap and then made their own hot dog roasting sticks for the cookout. The Cast Iron Chef portion required the boys learn how to safely build  and maintain a fire, how to create a menu suitable for cooking outdoors, and how to cook their food over a fire. Fun was had by all during this backyard BBQ!

Webelos 1 Kick Off the Year at Cherry Valley - Sept 25 - 27, 2015

The Webelos 1 den kicked off the year by sailing away to Camp Cherry Valley on Catalina Island for the Webelos Golden Nugget weekend. We boarded the ferry late afternoon and arrived on Catalina Island just in time for "Cracker Barrel" (chili and potatoes). We headed to bed after that because there was a big day ahead. The boys completed FOUR badges in the morning, and were then rewarded with an afternoon filled with snorkeling, archery, BB guns, hiking, and more. What a great way to kick start the year!
